【Kuching Must Eat】Sin Kwang Foochow Big Pau

By L3Dah on Jun 21, 2017

While many prefer to have a bowl of noodles or laksa for breakfast, others prefer to have light and simple buns for breakfast. When it comes to steamed buns, one famous shop in Padungan made its name producing delicious and humongous steamed buns, it’s even stated in the name of the place, Sin Kwang Foochow Big Pau.

Located at Jalan Padungan, Sin Kwang Foochow Big Pau started their operation back in 1958 and is now operated by the 3rd generation! While some may complain that the price gone up wayyyyy too much, we believe that it is still within acceptable range, especially since the one piece of the Big Bun coupled with a cup of hot coffee is enough to make one full. And let’s not forget to mention that all the buns and the sio bee here is handmade fresh daily too~~~

Starting off with the star of Sin Kwang Foochow Big Pau, the Tua Pau (which literally translates to big bun). This delicious Steamed Bun is about the size of a palm! For some people it is even bigger than their face~ XD

The bun is very soft and it is not thick at all. The fillings inside the bun is a slice of hard boiled egg, and a huge compact piece of minced meat mixed with pickled veggie. The satisfying piece of minced meat is so well marinated that you will chomp down the rest of the buns in no time.

Other than the Tua Pau, the second thing that the shop is famous for is the Sio Bee that is just as satisfying as the big steamed bun. These little pieces of Sio Bee is perfect if you’re not a big eater or if you can’t handle a BIG steamed bun for breakfast in the morning.

Other than the big bun, they also have an array of different buns for you to choose from~

Such as the Char Siew Pau, Bak Pau (Pork Bun), and the smooth and sweet Tau Sa Pau (Red Bean Paste Bun)~~~

Would you recommend this huge bun to your friends from outside Kuching? I know I would!
